Another one(s) bites the dust
It feels like ages since I began my search for a bride—it’s been centuries! My family and I have been on this journey, but we’re still not there yet.
In India, we have this concept of ‘alliance’. It’s a rather odd term. When two families come together for an arranged marriage, it’s called an alliance. Are we preparing for a war? Why can’t we come up with a better name for it?
We began the search in 2022 and are still on the journey. Since then, I have had the chance to look at profiles of over 200 brides and meet around 20 of them. I even fell in love in 2023, which led to a tough breakup.
I believed that moving to a different city and changing jobs would be a good solution, but it did not work out. Now, I have decided to leave my job and return to my hometown.
I’ve met and turned down many women, and just as many have turned me down—sometimes harshly. I nearly settled on a bride, but her family backed out. Call it what it is: rejection.
It feels like I’m trudging through a desert—exhausting and harsh.
Still, I keep moving forward, because trying is all I can do.
